After New Orleans, we headed for the Mississippi Delta. We got out of the city by taking the second longest bridge over water in the world: Lake Pontchartrain Causeway. A distance of 24 miles over Lake Pontchartrain, it is so long that for 8 miles, you can’t see land in any direction. A picture from down there wouldn’t be so impressive, so here’s one from the internet:
After crossing the bridge, we stopped for 2 hours in the Honey Island swamp for a boat tour. We saw some alligators (the biggest one being 90 years old), racoons, turtles and wild hogs. That was pretty impressive, neither of us had seen anything like it before.
